Everywhere to Everywhere
So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”
–2 Corinthians 5:20 NLT
Christ calls us to be his ambassadors and to take his message of reconciliation to the world. That includes places that are near, places that are far, and even the places that are really hard. In those hard places, the work is slow and difficult, and results appear to be few. While hearing stories of hundreds and even thousands coming to faith in other places, and only one or a few in the hard places, we may be tempted to ask if it’s worth it.
A hundred years ago, when our first missionaries went to Africa and South America, they too faced incredible hardship. One of our earliest missionaries died of malaria only two weeks after arriving to the field. In Peru, our first missionaries taught English classes for 25 years because it was illegal to evangelize. An entire village once attempted to kill a local pastor and his family by poisoning their bread. The costs were high, yet the church persevered and continued to go—and to grow.
As a result, The Wesleyan Church now has churches in 20 countries in our Ibero-America Area and in 19 countries in our Africa Area. Not only are these churches multiplying and impacting their own communities, but they are beginning to partner with Global Partners in going to the far and hard places!
Ambassadors, rise up and continue to partner with the global church to take this wonderful message of reconciliation to the world. The work is slow and difficult, but the efforts make eternal differences.
