Barry & Christy Van Steenburg

Barry and Christy shared a passion for local ministry for many years; Barry being a Wesleyan pastor and Christy a pastor’s kid and beginning the process of ordination. In 2013 they had the opportunity to teach at a Pastor’s Congress in Guatemala. It was there that they both felt a strong calling to missions in Central America. Barry and Christy have been serving with Global Partners since the fall of 2013.

Barry and Christy are passionate about helping to equip and empower pastoral leaders and local church leaders in Central America to effectively lead their churches, disciple their members, and spread the gospel far beyond their borders.

The Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. (Isaiah 61:1-3 NIV).
