Zimba Mission Hospital – Solar Power Project — Zambia
This project will provide an affordable backup power source for the entire facilities at Zimba Mission Hospital for the times when the hospital is cut off from power supply from the national power company. This frequently occurs during (1) general maintenance schedules, (2) faults at the power company plant or on the supply lines, (3) normal scheduled power cuts during power rationing. The solar power system will (1) run the medical and non-medical equipment at the hospital, (2) provide lighting for the staff, and most importantly, (3) save the lives of patients, especially those who are on the operating table or on oxygen, as well as premature babies in incubators and mothers in labor. The solar power system will replace the much more expensive to operate diesel generators, which serve as the current backup power systems.
