Pray for the Unreached

Sobering Facts

  • There are over 7000 unreached people groups in the world.
  • In some areas, Christ-followers account for less than 1% of the population.
  • There are over 1 million communities without one local church.

AMPLIFIED LABORERS is a Wesleyan Church initiative to mobilize holistic church planting teams to unreached global cities. This effort must be bathed with focused prayer.

By Dr. Wayne Schmidt, General Superintendent of The Wesleyan Church

While I’m a “doer” by nature, I’m blessed to begin my day with a quiet time including biblical and devotional reading and reflection, journaling, and prayer. Through intercession I believe I’m joining God in his purposes throughout the world.

I’ve assembled a prayer notebook to prompt my prayers for people and causes close to my heart and, more importantly, close to the heart of God. Significant focus is given to Global Partners.

  • My prayers are enriched by places I’ve been and people I’ve met around the world, creating bonds that transcend time and distance.
  • I’m gripped by the reality that there are over 7,000 unreached people groups, and in some areas Christ-followers account for less than one percent of the population. There are over one million communities, many of which are new and expanding, without a single local church.
  • I’m moved when I think of people who have never had a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ and remain lost unless someone crosses culture to reach them with the gospel.

So, daily I pray

  • naming each of the Global Partners Area Directors in prayer, prompted by a map of the world showing their spheres of responsibility.
  • naming members of Global Partners Resource Team that I’ve gotten to know better since coming to work at the global headquarters of The Wesleyan Church, and for their work in mobilizing and supporting missionaries.
  • naming missionaries who serve in places “far” and “hard” (Acts 1:8), utilizing prayer cards provided by Global Partners.
  • for my wife, Jan, and me, that we’ll be gripped by a sense of urgency and respond with generosity to the call to transform lives, churches, and communities globally through the hope and holiness of Jesus Christ.

I am energized each morning to pray and then obey the command to “go and make disciples of all nations...” I’m additionally grateful that my prayers are rising in concert with the prayers of so many people like you.

Invest in the mission by praying daily and specifically for a missionary.
